«Belorussiya, and by no means Belarus». Artemy Lebedev wrote what is correct in Russian and delighted his subscribers
Russian designer and blogger Artemy Lebedev published a post about the Belarusian language and Belarusians. He acted, according to his definition, as a «native speaker and defender of the norm» of the Russian language. He refused to «mutilate his native language for the sake of a neighbor, even for the sake of a beloved and native neighbor».
Lebedev begins his post with the «absence of complexes» in the Belarusian language.
«I never cease to admire the absence of complexes and the freedom of the Belarusian language. Here, the principle is — as it sounds, so it is written. Verification words are impossible. For example, the river is called Volga. What is the city on it called? Volgograd. Wonderful, isn't it!»
After this, Lebedev explains how, in his opinion, Belarusians should be called in Russian.
He writes that he reacts sharply to demands to use the form «belarus»:
«When they tell me that I need to write «belarus», I tell them to f*ck off for exactly one reason: in the Russian language, the connecting vowel is «o». Therefore, only and exclusively «beloruss».
He explains that he considers himself a native speaker of the Russian language, and in it, according to his logic, there is no such «absence of complexes» as in the Belarusian language:
«Because I speak and write Russian grammatically correctly. And I am not ready to mutilate my native language for the sake of a neighbor, even for the sake of a beloved and native neighbor».
Therefore, only and exclusively «beloruss».
Just as unequivocally, Lebedev indicates how the neighboring country should also be called.
«Well, and of course, Belorussiya, and by no means Belarus. This I responsibly declare as a native speaker and defender of the norm».
The publication received more than 1600 reactions. The blogger's subscribers were delighted: more than 830 hearts, almost 400 thumbs up, 160 flames.
Significantly fewer among Lebedev's subscribers were those who disagreed or were outraged — only 85 clowns, 50 piles. It was impossible to choose popcorn.
