The US plans to invest about 9 billion dollars in Armenia's energy sector, including the development of nuclear energy. US Vice President J.D. Vance announced this on February 9 during a visit to Yerevan, where he spoke alongside Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, writes "European Truth" (Evropeyska Pravda).
According to Vance, the parties have completed negotiations on an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The implementation of this agreement will open opportunities for new projects for both American and Armenian companies. In the first phase, investments of approximately 5 billion dollars are planned, and in the second — another 4 billion.
The US Vice President emphasized that the project will be beneficial for both countries, as it will contribute to strengthening energy security, the resilience of the energy system, and the creation of new jobs.
He also noted that Armenia plans to use small modular reactors, i.e., modern American technologies.
Vance added that the US rarely exports such sensitive technologies, and this was made possible partly due to trust in the Armenian leadership.
It was previously known that J.D. Vance would also visit Azerbaijan to consolidate agreements regarding the construction of a trade and transit corridor.
Recall that in August last year, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in the presence of US President Donald Trump, signed an agreement on the creation of the TRIPP transit route from Azerbaijan's main territory to the Nakhchivan enclave through Armenia. The practical implementation of this project, including the start of construction work, is planned for 2026.
