This year, they promise to open the «ship» — the famous BNTU building — after reconstruction
The famous 15th building of BNTU, known as the «ship,» is planned to open in 2026 after a long reconstruction, Minsk-News agency writes. The building near the «Barysauski Trakt» metro station, commissioned in 1983, got its nickname due to its shape, similar to an ocean liner (some also call it an «airplane»).

Initially, students from the Engineering and Construction and Architectural Faculties of BNTU studied in this building. Over time, the building's operation became problematic: difficulties arose with heating, ventilation, escalators, and other systems. Renovation began back in 2007, but studies continued until 2020. After that, the building was closed for major reconstruction.

During this time, wooden windows have been replaced with plastic ones, the facade has been insulated, the roof has been renewed, and lighting has been installed. Instead of escalators, which did not prove effective, more functional staircases have appeared. A ventilation and smoke extraction system has been laid for the first time, fire safety has been modernized, and engineering and energy communications have been updated.

Since late 2025, the general contractor has been «Telekomsvyazstroy.» The work is divided into two stages.

The first stage — the eight-story part with auditoriums — is about 70-75% complete. Here, heating systems, ventilation, low-current networks (video surveillance, internet, communications) are being replaced, suspended ceilings and anti-vandal roller shutters are being installed, new furniture is being brought in, and educational equipment is being updated. This part is planned to be put into operation by September 1st, so that students from four faculties can return here from the main building on Independence Avenue.

The second stage — the high-rise part with administrative premises — is about 30% complete. Six elevators have already been installed there, communications and finishing have been partially carried out, and facade cladding and lighting installation are ongoing. All work is planned to be completed by the end of the year, provided sufficient funding from the republican budget.

If the promises are kept, in 2026, the «ship» will once again open its doors to students and faculty in a renovated and modernized form.
