Alena Zmushko, from Homel, is 39 years old.
In 2008, she graduated from the Belarusian State University of Transport with a degree in "Information Transmission and Distribution Systems".
According to social media, she met her future husband at the university — a native of Norilsk with Belarusian roots, who also studied at BelSUT. The couple has an 8-year-old son.
Alena began her IT career in 2008 at Intervale, where she worked intermittently until 2020. There she grew from a tester to a technical project manager, dealing with mobile platforms for banks and telecom operators. Colleagues spoke of Alena as a tactful and self-organized employee who knew how to approach difficult clients.
From 2013 to 2015, she worked at the Homel-based company Kwanza, where she developed an electronic ticketing system.
In recent years, the family lived in Warsaw. There, in February 2021, Alena co-founded and became the lead business analyst for GlobalTips, a startup that helps establishments "go digital". Through their service, cashless tips can be left for waiters via QR code.

It is known that Alena periodically returned to Belarus. On November 13, 2024, the woman was traveling home with her son to visit her parents. But she was detained and placed in a pre-trial detention center.
Alena was convicted in the Hrodna Regional Court. On November 24, 2025, she was sentenced under parts 1 and 2 of Article 361-4 of the Criminal Code (facilitation of extremist activity) — three years in a penal colony. The sentence recently came into force.
According to human rights defenders, Alena was accused of assisting political prisoners.
Currently, the political prisoner is in women's correctional colony No. 4.
