Ex-banker, ex-political prisoner, former participant in the 2020 presidential campaign Viktar Babaryka shared his vision for the country's future and what he plans to “do with the time he has left”. He emphasized that he speaks not as a politician, but as a manager. He sees his main task as creating a “non-Russian” Belarus, which will become an element of European security. We present his text.

This will not be a detailed “roadmap” of my steps — I will try to formulate a goal and outline the possibilities for achieving it. Moreover, I will not write a lengthy text, but merely indicate the starting point from which I will “go out to the people”.
I want to clarify immediately: this is not a political statement and not a decision to “stay” in politics.
I am a manager. And if there's one thing I truly know how to do, it's to propose a vision for the future, structure and form paths towards a set goal, evaluate and find the necessary resources for its achievement (people, teams, tools, etc.), organize work, monitor progress, make necessary adjustments, and report to those who gave me the opportunity to contribute to achieving agreed-upon goals.
Therefore, I will present this sequentially.
Goal
“Non-Russian” (independent), nuclear-free, democratic Belarus — a necessary element of European security.
I will explain each word.
“Non-Russian” — almost complete dependence of Belarus on Russian raw materials, as well as sanctions from developed countries for complicity in aggression against Ukraine, have led to our products being sold primarily in the markets of our “eastern brother”. This significantly limits our sovereignty and the ability to live as we wish, not as is beneficial to someone else.
“Nuclear-free” — the exclusion from the Constitution of articles on the nuclear-free status and neutrality of the country has effectively led to a “shahid belt” in the form of “Areshnik” being hung on us, with its control panel located in Moscow. Additionally, Belarus has been made an enemy to our neighbors and all of Europe. As a result, we are perceived as a threat, not as a friendly nation, which in no way contributes to the prosperity and improvement of the quality of life for every person.
“Democratic” — this is a country where there is an opportunity to choose a path of development through the formation of a common vision by all citizens, and not only by those who believe that we have “not yet grown up” for such a choice and that only they know what this “small people” needs. We must build a country where the people formulate demands to the authorities for the well-being of the people, and not the authorities dictate what and how we should do for their own preservation.
Can this “elephant be eaten all at once”? Unlike 2020, when we were very close to beginning this process and had a clearly understood time and tools, today the situation looks much worse. But I do not consider it hopeless.
That is why I have been and will continue to be involved in building such a country — regardless of the sphere in which my efforts will be most in demand.
