Russian political prisoner received an additional year and a half in prison for shouting «Glory to Ukraine! Death to Putin!»
Russian photographer Alexander Strukov, who worked in Alexei Navalny's campaign headquarters, was sentenced to six years in prison on charges of public calls for terrorism. The reason for the new criminal case was his shout in court after the first verdict was announced.
As reported by Russian «Mediazona», after the verdict in the previous case was announced, Strukov shouted: «Glory to Ukraine! Death to Putin!». This very act became the basis for another charge.
The court imposed a sentence by combining it with the unserved term from the first case, so effectively about a year and a half was added to the previous sentence.
In his final statement, Strukov declared that he does not consider himself guilty, does not repent, and does not intend to change his views. He noted that he does not recognize himself as an extremist and emphasized his disagreement with the charges.
In November 2023, 32-year-old Alexander Strukov was sentenced to eight years in a penal colony for comments in the Telegram channel of the publication Znak.com, which, among others, began with the words «Glory to Ukraine!», «Down with the power of the Chekists…», «Good morning everyone, down with Putin!». Upon appeal, the term was reduced to 7 years and 10 months.
In the pre-trial detention center and the penal colony, Strukov constantly faced pressure: an ex-mercenary of «Wagner PMC» offered cellmates cigarettes to beat him, the photographer was placed in the punishment isolation cell (SHIZO) several times and, despite asthma and bronchitis, was sent to "dusty production". In the colony, Strukov was registered as a person who "spreads extremism" and is prone to "crimes of a terrorist nature". On April 28, 2025, a new criminal case was opened against him.
