Alexander Lukashenka proposed to change the leadership of the Belarusian Basketball Federation, which is headed by Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankov.
"Let him deal with the ministry. And we need to find a strong person there who will deliver results," Lukashenka said at a meeting on providing support to physical culture and sports organizations.
According to him, Ryzhankov already has many tasks, and there are problems in basketball.
The Basketball Federation should be headed by handball player Sergei Rutenka, who heads the Tennis Federation.
Belarusian basketball is currently in a deep coma. Firstly, after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Belarusian basketball, along with Russian basketball, is under an international ban. Belarusian clubs are suspended from Eurocups and national team tournaments.
Secondly, the performance of Minsk "Tsmoki" in the VTB United League (effectively the Open Championship of Russia) was very weak; the team repeatedly finished last prematurely and has not played in it for the last few years.
