Lithuanian border guards detained 30 illegal migrants crossing from an underground tunnel on the border with Belarus
On Monday, Lithuanian border guards witnessed an unusual sight on the border with Belarus.

On the border with Belarus, officers of the State Border Guard Service detained a large group of illegal migrants. Among them was the organizer of the illegal border crossing.
Also, three foreigners who were supposed to transport the illegal migrants to Poland were detained. Later, other suspects were also detained, reports the State Border Guard Service.
On April 6, in the afternoon, the video surveillance system in the Vilnius district recorded an unusual case of border violation. Near the village of Boravikine (on the Belarusian side — the closed crossing Kotlovka), a group of 30 people illegally crossed the border within a few minutes from an underground tunnel.
Border guards reported the incident to colleagues who were nearby. A large number of officers, service dogs, a helicopter, and drones were used in the operation; police were also involved.
On Monday night and Tuesday, officers of the State Border Guard Service detained most of the illegal migrants, who had split into small groups, in the Vilnius district. Three foreigners who were supposed to transport them to Poland were detained.
It turned out that a 35-year-old Ukrainian citizen, who admitted he had come for the illegal migrants, was driving a Toyota Proace car. Also, two other men were detained — a 41-year-old Opel Corsa driver (Georgian citizen) and a 24-year-old Ukrainian citizen behind the wheel of a VW Passat. All three have residence permits in Poland. They do not know each other. It was found that their actions were coordinated by the organizers of the operation, who provided instructions, routes, and other information.
On the morning of April 8, police in Vilnius detained a 37-year-old Lithuanian citizen who was transporting six illegal migrants (Afghan citizens) in a VW Tiguan car. By Wednesday evening, 27 of the 30 illegal migrants who had crossed the border through the tunnel were detained.
24 of them were returned to Belarus, and two others were taken to the hospital due to health problems.
Citizens of Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan illegally entered Lithuania. Only some of them presented identity documents.
An investigation has been launched into the illegal border crossing. On the afternoon of April 8, a 44-year-old Azerbaijani citizen and a 28-year-old Lithuanian citizen were detained, suspected not only of organizing the illegal border crossing but also of other similar crimes. The detainees are in custody. The search for three more illegal migrants continues.
