USA temporarily allowed India to buy Russian oil stranded at sea
“To keep oil flowing to the global market, the US Treasury Department is issuing a temporary 30-day authorization allowing Indian refiners to purchase Russian oil,” wrote US Treasury official Scott Bessent.
According to Bessent, this short-term measure “will not bring significant financial benefit to the Russian government” — only deals with oil already at sea and unable to be delivered are allowed.
In early February, Donald Trump announced that India agreed to stop buying Russian oil and buy more oil from the US in exchange for lower tariffs.
“This will help end the war in Ukraine,” stated the US President.
