Ancient cobblestone found under a layer of asphalt near the New Castle in Hrodna
Large-scale improvement works have begun on the territory of the New Castle in Hrodna. One of the stages is the renovation of paths and driveways. The old asphalt was removed here to lay a new layer of surfacing, and underneath it was a reminder of antiquity, writes newgrodno.by.

In one place – along the facade of the castle, which faces the Neman river – an even older surface was found under the asphalt. It turns out that the path here was once paved with cobblestones.

Users on social media are actively discussing this fact. People are sharing opinions on when this path might have been laid: perhaps kings once walked on it. They also suggest not missing the chance to touch history: to see what the castle grounds looked like in those times.

Some are calling to leave this uncovered path as is. They say that the cobblestone would add authenticity to the castle and become another point of attraction for tourists.
