Trump announced the unique rescue of both F-15 pilots from deep inside Iranian territory
U.S. President Donald Trump announced the completion of an extremely complex search and rescue operation in the Iranian mountains. According to him, American military personnel managed to recover both pilots of the fighter jet shot down last Friday. Trump called this event a historic victory for American weaponry.
Trump announced on his social network Truth that the second pilot is already safe. Previously, information about the crew's fate was kept secret to avoid jeopardizing the mission, he added.
According to the U.S. President, this is the first instance in military history where two pilots were rescued individually from deep behind enemy lines.
According to Trump, the rescue operation involved "dozens of aircraft, armed with the world's deadliest weapons." The pilot is alive, though injured, Trump stated.
He noted that the military tracked the pilot's movements for days while Iranian forces attempted to track him down in the difficult-to-access mountains. No American service member was killed or injured during both operations.
Trump concluded his post with an Easter greeting and a reminder that the U.S. "never leaves its fighters behind."
Official Tehran has not yet commented on the statements about American aviation operations deep within its territory.
Yesterday it was reported that the U.S. was searching for the second pilot of an F-15 shot down over Iran on April 3. Iran, in turn, announced a reward of 60,000 dollars for the capture of the "enemy pilot."
