Belarusian Helsinki Committee recognized as an extremist formation
The corresponding decision was made by the KGB on March 31.
According to the agency, Zmitser Markušeŭski and Pavel Levinaŭ are involved with the BHC.
The organization was registered on November 1, 1995. Its founders included well-known public, political, and cultural figures of the country: Vasil Bykaŭ (who was also the first chairman of the BHC Supervisory Council), Ryhor Baradulin, Radzim Harecki, Svetlana Alexievich, Hienadz Buraukin, Jury Khadyka, Carlos Sherman, and others.
In 2021, Belarusian authorities revoked the BHC's registration.
