MFA made a statement regarding the blocking of pro-government media accounts on YouTube
"The appalling silence of international structures is striking," the department's statement says.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a statement regarding the blocking of pro-government media accounts on YouTube.
"These media are the foundation of the country's information sovereignty and have a multi-million audience both within Belarus and beyond its borders," the statement says.
"With its decision, YouTube has effectively blocked access for millions of citizens and compatriots abroad to legitimate, official content. This is a gross violation of Article 19 of the UN International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the basic principles of the OSCE in the field of media freedom.
The appalling silence of international structures is striking. Those among them, who traditionally promptly and loudly declare any, even the most controversial, cases of "restriction of freedom of speech" in countries undesirable to them, are demonstratively silent this time. This is a classic example of Western double standards: human rights matter only when it comes to an opinion convenient for the West," the statement says.
The MFA states that the Belarusian side is thoroughly studying all circumstances and reserves the right to respond appropriately — "with all available means within the framework of national legislation and international law."
