First Commercial Flight from US to Venezuela in Seven Years Arrives
An American Airlines flight departed from Miami airport for Caracas on Thursday, April 30. Before departure, a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place, writes NY Times.

"For almost seven years, there have been no direct commercial flights between our countries. Under President [US Donald] Trump, we are changing that today," said State Department representative Natalia Malana.
Venezuelan Ambassador to Washington Felix Plasencia stated that American Airlines Flight 3599 signifies a "transition from dialogue to action."
The diplomat noted that the resumption of air travel demonstrated a new level of understanding between Caracas and Washington.
The first flight mainly carried US government representatives, American Airlines employees, and journalists.
The airline plans to operate one daily flight between Miami and Caracas, increasing the frequency to two per day from May 21.
