75-year-old BPC Archbishop asked to retire — but he was allowed to stay
On April 11, Archbishop Sofrony (Yushchuk) of Mogilev and Mstislavl turned 75 years old.

According to the Charter of the ROC, at this age, a hierarch submits a petition to the patriarch for retirement. The Holy Synod considers the matter.
However, today the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church decided to reject the request and to "bless the continued administration of the Mogilev Diocese" of the BPC, writes 'Christian Vision'.
Nevertheless, Bishop Sofrony can now be removed from his post at any moment — simply by making a new decision regarding his petition. This is what happened in 2013 with Metropolitan Filaret (Vakhromeev) of Minsk.
