The accident occurred at the intersection of Minskaya and Sotsialisticheskaya streets.
Trying to avoid the impact, the BMW driver drove off the roadway onto the sidewalk, knocking down a lamppost, a road sign, a tree, and part of the archway of a three-story residential building. By a stroke of luck, none of the pedestrians were injured.

As the driver himself recounted, he was driving along Minskaya towards the 'white church' on a green light. He was not violating the speed limit. At the intersection with Sotsialisticheskaya, a VW Polo drove out in front of his car. Its driver had a 'red light'. This version was confirmed by eyewitnesses who were at the scene of the accident.

The VW driver was an elderly man. Neither he nor the BMW driver were injured.
Airbags deployed in both cars.

While the Polo can still be repaired, the BMW is likely beyond repair. The premium German sedan was literally buried under fragments of the 1950s-era building's archway. The archway itself is completely destroyed.
