Russians massively started searching for additives to improve gasoline quality
Amid fuel shortages in Russia, interest in gasoline additives has significantly increased. According to reports, the number of corresponding search queries on the internet has reached a record level. In June, users searched for information about additives much more frequently, and demand for such products noticeably increased, writes "Verstka".
At the same time, prices for these products on online marketplaces began to rise. Some popular additives became 10-15 percent more expensive in just a few days. This happened after Russian authorities, amid fuel shortages, decided to allow a deterioration in its quality.
Manufacturers and sellers claim that such products can improve gasoline quality, increase its octane number, and reduce fuel consumption. In reviews, buyers note that they purchase additives due to a lack of fuel at gas stations and doubts about its quality. Some car owners report noticing improved engine performance, while others did not feel any effect.
The fuel crisis in Russia is linked to attacks on oil refineries, as a result of which gasoline production volumes have significantly decreased. In June, gasoline output, it is claimed, was approximately a quarter less than average summer consumption.
Against this background, authorities introduced restrictions on fuel sales in many regions of the country. Disruptions in supplies and problems with the operation of gas stations are also reported.
To mitigate the deficit, the Russian government increases fuel imports from Belarus, arranges for supplies from India, and has allowed oil refineries to produce gasoline according to less stringent environmental standards. Additionally, the return to sale of "Euro-2" standard gasoline is not ruled out, the use of which could accelerate the wear and tear of modern car engines.
