Prince Harry and Meghan Markle return to the UK after six years of self-imposed exile
But they will move into a private, not royal, residence.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to return to the UK six years after they stepped down from royal duties and moved to the USA, reports the BBC.
The Daily Telegraph and The Sun newspapers were the first to report this. According to their reports, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan intend to move from California to the UK at the end of August — into a private, not royal, residence outside London.
Their children, seven-year-old Prince Archie and five-year-old Princess Lilibet, are expected to start school in Britain in September.
King Charles III was informed of the move on Sunday. Currently, there are no plans for either Prince Harry or Meghan to return to duties as members of the Royal Family.
A representative for Prince Harry and Buckingham Palace have not yet commented on this. A source close to the couple confirmed the accuracy of the reports, writes Reuters.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their children, visited the King in July, but their move was not discussed at that time. Charles III did not know about their move until last weekend, however, he is pleased with the opportunity to see the Prince's family more often in private.
The return of official status for Prince Harry and Meghan is not expected — they will remain private citizens.
Prince William and Princess Catherine were also informed of their plans.
Prince Harry and Meghan left the UK and ceased performing royal duties in the spring of 2020. Since then, family relations have remained strained, and their visit to King Charles and Queen Camilla in July became a key event.
The Palace described the meeting at the King's private residence in Gloucestershire as a 'private family event'. The King saw his grandchildren for the first time in over four years.
Prince Harry and Meghan have not been in the UK together since 2022, when they attended the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
The couple's security has long been a source of tension, as the Duke of Sussex's request for police protection was rejected.
Last year, Prince Harry lost a legal challenge regarding the level of protection he and his family are entitled to while in the UK.
Previously, Prince Harry stated that security concerns prevented him from coming to the UK and bringing his wife and children with him.
Prince Harry is the younger brother of Prince William, who is considered the heir to the royal throne. Harry is only fifth in line.
