Cole announced he expects the release of a large group of political prisoners in the near future
On previous occasions, several hundred people have been released.

U.S. President's Special Envoy John Cole stated in an interview with the New York Times that he expects the release of Belarusian political prisoners soon.
It should be recalled that as a result of previous visits by the American delegation, 438 people were released: June 21, 2025 — 14 political prisoners, September 11 — 51 people, December 13 — 123 people, March 19, 2026 — 250 people.
However, the last release took place five months ago, in mid-March.
Currently, according to human rights defenders, there are 878 political prisoners in Belarus.
