Why does a grey crane have a tail like a rooster's? It turns out, it's not a tail at all
When a crane stands on the ground with folded wings, a luxurious "tail" similar to a rooster's hangs behind it. But this is only how it seems, writes the Telegram channel "Wild nature nearby".

In reality, these are tertiary flight feathers that grow on the humerus of the wing near the body. They are so long and lush that they can completely cover the bird's tail.
The actual tail of cranes is straight and short. When the bird takes flight and spreads its wings, a neat little tail can be seen behind.
