Schoolchildren who ride electric scooters incorrectly, and their parents, may face problems.

For example, in October, the State Automobile Inspectorate (SAI) conducted a raid near school №2 in Fanipal. Two boys on electric scooters were stopped – both were under 14 years old. Their parents were subsequently called to the school. Other students, upon seeing the inspector, turned around or bypassed the school, reports av.by.

The SAI reminds that children under 14 years old are not allowed to operate an electric scooter independently on the road without adult accompaniment. The exception is residential areas.

It is also forbidden to ride two people on one scooter. The permitted speed is no more than 25 km/h, and in populated areas no more than 10 km/h, except on bicycle paths and the roadway where permitted.

Pavel Kulakov, head of agitation and propaganda for the SAI of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee, says that the main goal of their raids is prevention.

But if a schoolchild is caught violating the rules, the matter may not end with just a conversation. The SAI investigates the circumstances, contacts the parents, and submits materials to the commission for juvenile affairs. If the child is under 14 years old, the parents may face a case under Part 1 of Art. 10.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (failure to fulfill parental duties) and a fine of up to 10 basic units. The commission may oblige them to strengthen control, for example, not to let the child out without adults at certain times.

The child may also be put on police record.
