Mosaic on the building of former School No. 5 in Novopolotsk could not be saved
Enthusiasts asked to preserve at least a fragment of the mosaic on the building of former School No. 5 in Novopolotsk, but the panel could not be saved.

A video appeared on TikTok showing the wall with the mosaic being demolished.
Earlier, attempts by enthusiasts to preserve the panel were reported. Due to the technology of the mosaic's creation, it was impossible to remove it entirely from the wall. To preserve it, either the entire wall had to be left, or fragments of the panel had to be cut out along with the brick base.
Both options required significant costs. Therefore, enthusiasts proposed a compromise — to cut out at least one fragment of the mosaic to place it elsewhere. They were looking for money and specialists for such work.
School No. 5 on Dzerzhinsky Street, 4, operated from 1972 to 2021. It was closed as part of optimization, and students were transferred to School No. 1. The building was decided to be demolished to free up space for another facility.
This school was where writer and translator Yakub Lapatka and poet-bard Siarzhuk Sakalau-Voyush taught. Among its graduates are hockey players, brothers Andrei and Sergei Kostitsyn.
