"According to observations, the peak started in August. Usually, people first complain of general malaise, cough, temperature around 38, which does not go down for 3-5 days. Some experience vomiting and nausea," explains a doctor working in the hospital.

According to doctors, tests do not always determine that a person has Covid, but all the symptoms show that it is.

"Covid is now generally treated like the flu. In cases where the test does not confirm the diagnosis, patients are diagnosed with the flu. In general, the attitude towards Covid is not the same as it was 2-3 years ago, because everyone understands that it will not go away."

Despite the large number of pneumonia cases, the doctor notes that, fortunately, mortality from the current strains is low. But their virulence is very high, and often several people in families get sick at once.

"It can also be noted that if children used to get Covid much less often, now there are equally many cases among both adults and children."

A doctor from the polyclinic also confirms that the increase in diseases began around the second half of the summer. But since mass testing is no longer practiced, it is impossible to determine the real number of Covid patients.

Among those who had pneumonia were public figures. For example, singer Ivan Zdanyuk said on social networks in August how he had a temperature of 39.7 in the last days of his vacation in Turkey. Ivan's condition was such that an ambulance was waiting for him at the Minsk airport. Before his performance in Lida at the city festival, doctors gave him an injection so that he could go on stage. Almost immediately after the concert, the singer was taken to the hospital with pneumonia.

Natalia Fedyukovich, a popular Belarusian blogger and founder of her own women's health clinic in Minsk, F-clinic, also complained of pneumonia. She showed on social networks how she breathes oxygen in between clients.

Official information from the Ministry of Health

The growth in Covid incidence is also mentioned at the official level. Kirill Ignatov, head of the Immunoprophylaxis Department of the Republican Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health, stated that the country is seeing an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases. Ignatov attributed this to the onset of the autumn season.

What about the neighbors?

Similar trends are observed in neighboring countries. For example, at the end of August, the Chief Sanitary Inspector of Poland, Pavel Grzhashevsky, recommended returning to the practice of wearing masks. He justified these statements by the fact that the country is experiencing a rapid increase in the incidence of Covid.

According to reports from the Polish Ministry of Health, the increase in infections began in July, when about 60 cases were recorded per day. By the end of July, their number had increased to more than 200, and in August it reached more than 400.

An increase in the incidence of Covid-19 is also noted in Lithuania.
