A Harsh Sentence Was Handed Down to a Resident of Yelsk in the "Gayun Case"
Political prisoner Vitaly Kovalenko, a resident of Yelsk, was sentenced to three years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony. He was detained on May 13, 2025 and charged under Art. 361-4 of the Criminal Code (assistance to extremist activities), learned "Gomel Spring".

A source from "Gomelskaya Vyasna" in the regional court reported that Vitaly Kovalenko was sentenced a few days ago. Under Parts 1 and 2 of Article 361-4 of the Criminal Code (promoting extremist activities), he was sentenced to three years of imprisonment in a maximum-security penal colony.
The persecution of Vitaly Kovalenko is related to the case of the "Belarusian Gayun" monitoring channel, which since 2022 has been tracking the actions of the Russian army on the territory of Belarus before and during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In February 2025, security forces gained access to the channel's chat and personal data of people who transmitted information. After that, a wave of mass detentions began.
