The Hrodna Zoo told a sweet story about how they managed to save birds from fox raids.
A few years ago, foxes began to appear in Hrodna. At first there were few of them, but gradually they got used to city life and became frequent guests, including at the local zoo. It was there that they began to hunt waterfowl — after their night raids, employees found dead storks and geese. Therefore, something had to be done about this, writes the press service of the zoo.

They didn't want to kill foxes in the zoo, so they looked for humane ways to deal with them: they tried firecrackers, noise weapons, and air guns — but all of this only worked for a short time. The foxes returned and came up with new cunning hunting methods.
When all means were exhausted, someone suggested settling a dog near the pond that would scare away predators. The old husky Veisa, who already lived in the zoo, was not suitable for this, so the staff went to the «Devoted Heart» shelter to look for a young and strong dog.
They were immediately offered several dogs, but none of them were suitable. And suddenly a large mongrel bitch cautiously approached the guard, sat down next to him and began to look him in the eyes.
Shelter staff were surprised: this dog was very afraid of people, especially men. She had already been taken from the shelter before, but she was abused in her new family, and the dog had to be returned. Since then, she hasn't trusted people. But here she came herself and won't leave!

It was clear that the animal felt that these people would not hurt her. That's how Amira appeared in the zoo. At first she was afraid of everything, but gradually she got used to it and became a real protector of birds. Now she lives in her kennel by the pond, conscientiously guarding the territory.
They were not mistaken in their choice: Amira turned out to be a very responsible and vigilant guard, and also a favorite of the staff. Everyone knows about her difficult fate and tries to treat her and pet her.
The main thing is that since Amira appeared in the zoo, foxes have stopped coming and waterfowl are now safe.
When the workers of the «Devoted Heart» shelter came to see how their former pupil was living, Amira, thinking that they wanted to take her away, hid in her kennel and did not come out of it. The shelter decided: since she reacts like that, it means she is doing well in the zoo, and left her there to live.
