Lukashenka told how Statkevich was treated, and fabricated about explosions

Using Statkevich's example, Lukashenka justified the need to buy an additional apparatus for the Minsk Scientific and Practical Center for Surgery, Transplantology and Hematology.

At the opening of a polyclinic in Minsk, Lukashenka spoke about Mikalai Statkevich. Let us remind you that Statkevich refused deportation from Belarus. He was then put back in a high-security prison, where he suffered a stroke. Only after this was the ex-presidential candidate released.

"An example of this is Kolya Statkevich. He sat on the bench at the border for a while and returned home. If he hadn't returned, he would have been buried by now. You recently saved him – a stroke. He was taken to Rumo (Aleh Rumo heads the Minsk Scientific and Practical Center for Surgery, Transplantology and Hematology — NN), where they fussed around. There seems to be only one apparatus like that in the country. We need to check, maybe buy a couple more. You saved a man who orchestrated explosions, who wanted to overthrow the country, to kill the president. But when the fried rooster pecked him (meaning when disaster struck) – he ran to this very president, into the 'dictatorship,' to be saved. You saved him," Lukashenka said today.

Lukashenka's latest claims are false. Mikalai Statkevich never orchestrated explosions and never planned the assassination of the president. There are no such materials in his criminal cases.

Also false is the claim that "Statkevich ran into the dictatorship." Statkevich ran nowhere: at risk to his life, he resisted deportation, which contradicts existing laws in Belarus.

Let us remind you that Mikalai Statkevich, sentenced to 14 years, was released on September 11 as part of a group of 52 people and was being taken to Lithuania, but he left the bus, spent several hours at the border, after which he was re-detained and returned to the penal colony. In February, he suffered a stroke, spent several weeks in the hospital, and was released on February 19.
