Donald Trump's administration has proposed a record military budget to the US Congress — about $1.5 trillion for the 2027 fiscal year, Bloomberg reports . This is approximately 40% more than current defense spending.

The increase is explained by the war with Iran and the need to replenish arms stockpiles.
It is planned that the main part of the funds (more than $1.1 trillion) will be disbursed through the standard budget procedure, and another approximately $350 billion — through a special budget reconciliation mechanism.
To find the money, it is proposed to cut spending on domestic programs by approximately $73 billion. In particular, funding for healthcare, education, housing, and environmental programs may be reduced. Part of these responsibilities are proposed to be transferred to state authorities.
At the same time, spending on law enforcement agencies will increase: additional funds are planned to be directed to border security, deportations, and the work of the Department of Justice.
This initiative has been met with caution in Congress. Lawmakers doubt both the expenditures themselves and the administration's alleged circumvention of their control over military operations. There are also concerns that such a budget will significantly increase the US national debt in the future.
