Around midnight, residents of Kaunas shared information about the detention of Benas Mikutavičius, suspected of committing a double murder. The whole city was searching for him.
People in the Zello app created a channel called «Raskime žudiką» (Let's find the killer). This call interested the residents of Kaunas, reports Delfi.lt
Around 24:00, residents of Kaunas reported the arrest of a suspect on Kalnechu Street. The police informed Delfi that this was true. It is reported that the suspect was detained at 23:50.
In the Zello mobile application, residents of Kaunas described how Mikutavicius was detained. «Everyone started shouting that they found him, that they saw him at the Viad gas station, near the restaurant. Everyone quickly went there, ran. And sure enough, it was him. I don't know how true this is, but they say that first some girl in a car hit him, then guys jumped on him and hit him on the head,» people said.
Mikutačius had a large knife in his backpack. The application also shares information that groups of people patrolled the area all day looking for the suspect.
«Apartments, dormitories, abandoned parks and buildings. When they noticed the suspect, he started to run, jumped over the fence, the women caught him and laid him down, called the police,» they write in the group.
At the scene, one of the search participants told Delfi the details. «Everyone shared where they were, and some woman said that in this park, on Kalnechu Street, she noticed a suspicious person in a red jacket.
She increased her pace, the man started to run. We also went there ; he was already lying on the ground. They said that they found a telescopic baton and a knife on him. One of the participants in the detention «received» a stream of gas,» the young man said.
Videos of the suspect's arrest are being shared on Facebook. At a press conference at night, the police confirmed that residents helped detain the suspect. «With the help of residents, the suspect was detained, he is now under arrest,» the police said. «The police worked on the same street, in the same area. There were just more people, they were more lucky,» the law enforcement officers admitted.
Mikutačius did not resist, but tried to run. There were rumors that the suspect bit off his tongue during the detention, but the police could not confirm this information, only said that he was examined by doctors.
