Pensioner decided to extend contract with 'mobile operator' by phone — lost 28 thousand rubles
A 69-year-old resident of the capital contacted the Pervomaisky District Department of Internal Affairs after becoming a victim of phone scammers, the Investigative Committee reports.
The pensioner received a call on her mobile phone, allegedly from a mobile network operator, who, under the guise of resolving technical issues, deceptively obtained her passport data.
Later, a fake law enforcement officer contacted the Minsk resident and informed her that she had previously spoken with scammers who had used her data to obtain loans. To protect her savings and repay the debts, the woman was advised to declare the cash she had at home.
The Minsk resident got scared and handed over more than 28,000 rubles to a courier. Realizing that she had become a victim of fraudsters, the woman reported it to the police.
A criminal case has been initiated.
