In Ukraine's Volyn region, a court sentenced a Belarusian KGB agent, who was engaged in espionage against Ukrainian border guards, to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property, RBC-Ukraine reports .

According to the Volyn Oblast Prosecutor's Office, in 2024, the 25-year-old man agreed to cooperate with a foreign special service and, on assignment from the Belarusian KGB, photographed and videotaped defensive infrastructure near the state border of Ukraine. He transmitted the obtained information to his handlers and received monetary compensation for this on a bank card.
In addition to photographing objects in the border zone, he also carried out other tasks, acting covertly and confidentially. His espionage activities continued until May 2025.
The court found the man guilty of high treason under martial law. It was proven that his actions posed a threat to Ukraine's defense capability during the full-scale war.
The verdict was rendered under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and will enter into legal force after the appeal period expires. During the investigation, the accused was held in custody.
