The incident occurred in one of the banks in the Minsk district. During the banknote check, the employee noticed signs of foreign intervention and immediately called the police. The banknote was confiscated and sent for expert examination.
The woman explained to employees of the Minsk District Department of Internal Affairs that she received this money from an acquaintance who was repaying a loan, and she did not suspect that there might be problems with the banknote.
Specialists from the State Forensic Examination Committee found that it was originally a genuine banknote, but with a face value of only 5 US dollars. Later, it was altered to look like a 50-dollar bill.
In some places, fragments of paper with images of numbers, text, and the portrait of US President Ulysses Grant, corresponding to the higher denomination, were glued to the banknote. These elements were produced using a printer.
