A deal was concluded with Garibashvili, according to which the former prime minister was sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of 1 million lari (about 370 thousand dollars), writes the BBC.
"Irakli Garibashvili pleads guilty and agrees to the terms of the procedural agreement," the prosecutor's office said in a Facebook post.
In October, Garibashvili was charged under Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Georgia on money laundering, related to obtaining income on a particularly large scale.
According to the indictment, Garibashvili, who served as Minister of Defense and Prime Minister of Georgia in 2019-2024, was not allowed to engage in any entrepreneurial activity or receive any remuneration other than his official salary.
Garibashvili was considered one of the closest associates of billionaire and founder of the "Georgian Dream" party, Bidzina Ivanishvili. In April last year, Garibashvili announced that he was leaving politics and that his political career was over.
