Scandal erupts in Italy over fresco depicting an angel with Meloni's face
A scandal has erupted in Italy after an angel on one of the restored frescoes in the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Lucina in Rome allegedly acquired the facial features of the country's current Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, according to media and social media users.

As reported, the resemblance was noticed after the restoration work was completed. The Rector of the Pantheon and the Basilica, Daniele Micheletti, admitted that there is indeed a certain resemblance, but emphasized that the reasons for such a result should be clarified with the restorer himself, as he cannot explain why the fresco looks exactly like this.
In the Roman diocese, the news caused surprise and embarrassment — it is noted that such cases have not occurred before.
Giorgia Meloni herself reacted humorously to the situation on social media, writing that she is "not at all like an angel," and adding an emoji. She also published a photo of the fresco fragment.

The restorer, Bruno Valentinetti, rejected all accusations, stating that he merely restored the image as it was about 25 years ago, strictly adhering to old sketches and colors, without making any changes of his own.
The opposition also reacted to the situation. Representatives of the Democratic Party and the Five Star Movement stated that if the information is confirmed, it could be a serious violation of cultural heritage protection legislation. They demand immediate intervention by the Ministry of Culture, an investigation into the circumstances of the restoration, and clarification of who is responsible for the work.
Opposition politicians emphasize that Italy's art and cultural heritage should not become a means of propaganda or arbitrary interpretations, as this threatens their authenticity and historical value.
