Warm weather has already almost completely melted the snow throughout Belarus. But in Vileyka, an unusual situation is observed: there is still about 20 centimeters of snow cover, despite the positive temperature, writes "Meteovibe".

Synoptics explain this by the special location of the weather station. It is located near the forest and the Vileyka Reservoir. The ice on the reservoir has a high ability to reflect sunlight, so the air in this place heats up less. In fact, the icy surface works like a mirror.
When a southerly wind blows, cool air from the reservoir reaches the weather station. In addition, the nearby forest creates shade, so the snow melts significantly slower.

In other parts of the country, the snow has almost disappeared. As of March 16, it remains only in places in the east and in some northern regions of Belarus. In Minsk, about one centimeter of snow was still recorded on March 15, but March 16 was the first day without snow cover in 2026.

If we don't consider the unusual situation in Vileyka, the most snow is currently observed in Horki, Mogilev region — about 15 centimeters. This is explained by the fact that more snow accumulated there during the winter and the temperature in the east of the country is lower.
