Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he instructed his negotiating team to organize a future meeting at the level of leaders of Ukraine — USA — Russia in Geneva. Zelenskyy spoke about this in an interview with Axios, writes "Ukrainska Pravda".
According to him, the best way to achieve a breakthrough on the issue of territory in negotiations is a personal meeting with the head of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. Zelenskyy said he instructed his team to organize a future meeting at the leaders' level in Geneva.
It is also reported that American intermediaries proposed that Ukrainian troops withdraw their forces from the parts of Donbas they currently control and allow this territory to become a demilitarized "free economic zone."
Washington has not taken a position on which country will have sovereignty over this territory.
Zelenskyy stated that he is ready to discuss the withdrawal of troops but called on Moscow to withdraw its troops an equivalent distance and rejected Russia's claims to sovereignty over this zone.
Zelenskyy stated that during the second round of negotiations, Russian officials promised to consult with Moscow and return with a detailed position on the territorial issue.
