Axios, citing anonymous sources, revealed additional details of the phone conversation between the presidents of Ukraine and the United States, which Axios correspondent Barak Ravid and Volodymyr Zelensky's office had reported earlier today.
Zelensky spoke with Donald Trump for the first time since their meeting in Davos at the end of January. The conversation lasted 30 minutes.
Three Axios sources said that the publication describes these sources as a Ukrainian official and two other informed individuals.
According to Axios, Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner also participated in the call.
Both will be in Geneva on Thursday, where they are scheduled to meet with a Ukrainian delegation led by Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council.
Separately, Kushner and Witkoff "may" meet with Russian special representative Kirill Dmitriev in Geneva, one of Axios's interlocutors said. Earlier, the Russian state agency TASS also reported this, citing an anonymous source.
According to sources, Zelensky, as is customary, thanked Trump for his help and said that only the American president could force Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the war.
"Then Zelensky said he hoped the war would end this year, and Trump replied that the war had gone on too long and he would like it to end within a month," one of Axios's sources recounted.
