The incident occurred in February on the territory of Minsk National Airport. The man, who flew to Belarus from Shanghai, China, noticed a wallet that someone had accidentally left behind and decided to take it for himself. Inside were money and other property totaling 2948 rubles.
During the preliminary investigation, the accused fully admitted his guilt, returned the wallet with the money, and compensated the victim for moral damages. The court took into account his remorse and the fact that the damage was covered, so the man was brought not to criminal, but to administrative liability. As a result, he paid a fine of 1350 rubles to the state.
The prosecutor's office also noted that the situation occurred partly due to the victim's carelessness: he accidentally dropped his wallet at the taxi stand near the airport building.
