President of the World Economic Forum Resigns Amid Investigation into His Ties with Epstein

World Economic Forum President Børge Brende announced his resignation — this happened several weeks after the forum itself launched an independent investigation into his relations with convicted sex offender businessman Jeffrey Epstein.

Brende took up the position of the forum's president back in 2017. Earlier, materials from the Epstein case, published by the U.S. Department of Justice, found confirmation that he had dinner with Epstein three times and also exchanged emails with him.

Brende and Epstein corresponded in 2018 and 2019, discussing dinner meetings at the businessman's home.

In one of the emails, Epstein sent a photo of a woman whose face was redacted in the document published by the Department of Justice. Brende wrote: "I was right, wasn't I? Funny," and Epstein replied: "Yes. Bad news. Every time I see Miss Piggy, I'll think of… you."

Brende replied: "I'll live with that. Better to be remembered than forgotten."

In another series of messages in April 2018, Brende wrote: "I miss you, sir. Børge."
