Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys stated in an interview with LRT that some sanctions against Belarus will be expanded in the 20th package of EU sanctions against Russia, which they plan to adopt before the next anniversary of the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
«Another important point: within the 20th package, some measures concerning Belarus will even be expanded. I hope the Council of Foreign Affairs will approve it on February 23. So, next week the sanctions topic will be closed,» Budrys said.
The Minister was also asked about Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's move to Warsaw after her security level in Lithuania was lowered.
«Lithuania considers Tsikhanouskaya the leader of the opposition, and an office founded by her operates in Lithuania. It is her own decision — how to expand and continue her activities. This is not Lithuania's decision, just as the political agenda, what the opposition does by uniting separate structures in different countries, is their own business. Lithuania does not dictate — do this work now, or that one, or this one. What Lithuania can offer and what it does more than anyone else is create conditions for the activities of opposition representatives in Lithuania, ensuring security, space, political conditions, and also contributing financially. And we will continue to do this in the future,» said Kęstutis Budrys.
