Trump intends to lift sanctions against Russia if it agrees to peace
US President Donald Trump said he would like to gradually lift sanctions against Russia if a peace agreement on Ukraine is reached. He said this in response to a question from a TASS Russian agency employee on the South Lawn of the White House before flying to Texas.

According to Trump, the United States is ready to consider softening or lifting restrictions in the event of a settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. He emphasized that he seeks to achieve a cessation of the conflict as quickly as possible and hopes for its swift completion.
The American leader also noted that he had spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin and would like to see an end to hostilities, but did not specify whether there had been talk of a new contact at the highest level.
The US began imposing sanctions against Russia in 2014 after the annexation of Crimea. Over time, the restrictions have been repeatedly expanded and strengthened. Moscow considers these measures illegal and states that the Russian economy has already adapted to life under numerous sanctions.
According to information from the British publication The Economist, Russia allegedly offered the US a major economic deal in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. The magazine claims that many proposals emerged during the negotiations, but a peace agreement has not yet been reached. Additionally, it is reported that parallel to the main negotiations, representatives of the Kremlin and the White House also discussed business issues.
The publication also notes that concern is growing in Europe: they do not rule out that Donald Trump might push Ukraine into significant concessions for economic gain.
