"I saw nothing and did nothing wrong." Bill Clinton spoke about his ties to Epstein
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton testified before the House Oversight Committee of the U.S. Congress in connection with the case of financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was previously convicted of sexual offenses. The hearing took place behind closed doors, as did the one with his wife Hillary Clinton the day before.

In a published statement, Clinton noted that his acquaintance with Epstein was brief and ended long before the financier's crimes became known. He emphasized that he had no knowledge of Epstein's illicit activities and saw nothing suspicious during his interactions with him. According to him, he "saw nothing and did nothing wrong."
Clinton also stated that his wife has no connection to this story at all and does not even remember if she ever met Epstein.
This is the first time since 1983 that a former U.S. president has testified before a congressional committee. The committee chairman, Republican James Comer, noted that the Clintons long refused to participate in the hearings but eventually agreed. At the same time, Democrat Suhas Subramanyam stated that, in his opinion, the committee focused on the wrong president.
Hillary Clinton testified a day earlier. In her statement, she criticized the committee for the closed format of its work and called the process politically motivated, also calling for Donald Trump to be summoned to testify.
Earlier, Bill Clinton explained that he met Epstein through charitable activities after leaving the White House. Documents published by the U.S. Department of Justice indicate that their acquaintance began in the early 2000s, and in 2002-2003, Clinton used the financier's plane several times. However, by 2006, when Epstein was first accused of crimes, their contacts had already ceased.
Neither Bill nor Hillary Clinton are defendants in this case. The former president claims he was unaware of Epstein's crimes, and his wife says she never met him personally.
