The State Property Committee, on behalf of the Prosecutor General's Office and the government, leads an interdepartmental group calculating the damage caused by the Nazis on the territory of the BSSR.
The group includes representatives from ministries, concerns, the National Archive of Belarus, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, museums, and other departments.
The damage includes three components:
— Property damage — destruction and looting of property, cultural values, and natural resources (1941—1944).
— Indirect damage — lost profit, reduction of national income in wartime and post-war years.
— Post-war damage — costs for demining, eliminating the consequences of hostilities, and searching for and reburying remains.
It is reported that during the war, over 12,800 settlements were destroyed, hundreds of them along with their inhabitants. In Minsk and other cities, museums, universities, and theaters were destroyed. The Lenin monument in front of the Government House was sawn into pieces and transported to Germany.
In death camps ('Trostenets', 'Masyukovshchina', 'Ozarichi'), hundreds of thousands of civilians and prisoners of war were killed.
Final figures for damage as of December 29, 2025: 1,823.20 billion dollars.
The genocide case was opened exactly five years ago.
