The award ceremony took place during the opening of the Andrzej Wajda Year in Krakow.
During the ceremony, the organizers emphasized Wajda's role not only in the development of world cinema, but primarily in shaping moral views.
«Andrzej Wajda spoke about universal problems. The modern world, increasingly complex and incomprehensible, requires explanations that Andrzej Wajda sought for us. May this year bring us closer to this visionary and encourage us to think honestly and boldly,» emphasized Senate Speaker Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska.
The laureates were honored for their work in the spirit of social solidarity. In addition to Poczobut, the award was also received by the former First Lady, wife of Poland's 6th president Lech Wałęsa — Danuta Wałęsa.
