A key outcome of the visit was the decision by the Spanish authorities to allow the opening of an office for Belarus's democratic forces in Madrid. It will be headed by Tatsiana Marynich, founder of Imaguru and a representative of the Belarusian diaspora, reports "Zerkalo".
During her visit to Spain, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Minister of Foreign Affairs José Manuel Albares, and Speaker of the Senate Pedro Rollán Ojeda.
As diplomatic advisor Dzianis Kuchynski told "Zerkalo", this was one of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's most successful visits recently: the level of reception in Spain was comparable to her recent visit to Italy, with meetings held with the top officials of the state. The advisor notes that this demonstrates that the question of Tsikhanouskaya's legitimacy on the international stage is not an issue.
— She was and continues to be recognized as the elected leader of Belarus. During the meetings, it was discussed that if Spain wishes to speak with our country, it speaks with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, who represents the Belarusian people, — noted Dzianis Kuchynski.
According to him, two main issues were discussed during the meetings: the synchronization of European and American approaches regarding Belarus, and practical assistance to political prisoners.
Spain has already allocated 50 thousand euros to the International Humanitarian Fund to assist those repressed.
— We agreed that this country would make a second contribution to the humanitarian fund. This is now very much needed both for those who have already been released from prisons and for those who, we hope, will soon be freed, — emphasized the advisor.
During the meeting with Senate Speaker Pedro Rollán Ojeda, an agreement was reached on signing a memorandum of cooperation and creating a group "For Democratic Belarus" in the Spanish parliament. According to Kuchynski, this meeting was particularly substantive and concrete.
Notably, part of the negotiations in the Senate were conducted in Belarusian.
— The Belarusian language, probably for the first time, was spoken in the Spanish Senate, — shared Dzianis Kuchynski.
