The crew of the "Artemis II" mission published photos of the Moon, taken during their flyby of Earth's satellite. The photos also show a view of the Earth's sunset, which was captured on April 6, 2026.

These shots resemble the famous historical image of Earthrise, taken by American astronaut William Anders during the "Apollo 8" mission almost 60 years ago.

It is reported that the "Artemis II" mission has already completed an important stage — a lunar flyby lasting approximately seven hours, which marked humanity's first return to Earth's satellite since the "Apollo 17" mission in 1972.

During the flight, the "Orion" spacecraft for some time lost communication with Earth as it passed behind the Moon, and at that moment it approached the surface by approximately 6000 kilometers. Later, the crew reached the maximum distance from Earth, setting a new record for crewed spaceflights.

After the astronauts' observations concluded, U.S. President Donald Trump congratulated them on a live NASA broadcast.
