This little-known island made it into the top travel destinations for 2026
Several guidebooks and publications have included the Greek island of Ios in their list of recommended travel destinations for 2026 — thanks to its vibrant culture and wild, largely untouched nature.
It drew attention because more and more travelers are looking for authentic, little-known places, writes Delfi.

The influential British publication The Times included the island's capital, Chora, in its list of "25 Most Beautiful Villages in Greece". This traditional settlement captivates visitors with its cubic white houses and narrow, steep streets.
One of the must-visit places on Ios is the church of Panagia Gremioytissa. It stands at the highest point of the island, offering impressive views of the Aegean Sea. There is also the prehistoric settlement of Skarkos, dating back to the 3rd millennium BC, and the tomb of Homer.
The Italian travel portal WomTravel.it, which analyzes modern youth travel trends, also recommends Ios. According to the portal, the younger generation is increasingly choosing destinations where they can have a multifaceted experience — a vibrant social life, active outdoor recreation, and cultural discoveries.
The island also made it into the annual list of the best Greek islands, compiled by the French travel guide Petit Futé. It is noted that Ios can be reached by sea from other Greek islands. For example, if you depart from Heraklion in Crete, the sea journey will take about 2.5 hours. If you travel from Mykonos island, the journey will take 2 hours. The shortest route to Ios is from Santorini: it takes only 45 minutes. Tourist agencies note that there is no airport on Ios island.
