Responsibility introduced for propaganda of homosexuality, childlessness, and illegal representation of Belarus on the international arena
The Council of the Republic approved a draft law that not only amends existing norms but introduces new types of offenses.
Belarusian authorities continue to tighten screws in the sphere of ideology and private life.
On April 2, the Council of the Republic approved the draft law "On Amendments to the Codes on Administrative Responsibility".
"In total, 9 new articles, 43 new compositions of administrative offenses were introduced into the Code of Administrative Offenses, and 73 adjustments were made to existing compositions," said Andrei Matselski, director of the National Center for Legislation and Legal Information.
A resonant part of the changes was the introduction of responsibility for "propaganda of homosexual relations, sex change, childlessness, and pedophilia" - all grouped together.
Fines are provided for offenders:
individuals: up to 20 basic units;
individual entrepreneurs: up to 100 basic units;
legal entities: from 100 to 150 basic units.
If law enforcement deems that a minor has become familiar with such information, the punishment is strengthened: in addition to increased fines, citizens will face community service or administrative arrest.
In addition, responsibility has been introduced for "illegal representation of the Republic of Belarus at international events."
What this means has not yet been explained, but it can be assumed that this is a blow to activists and politicians in emigration. The punishment for this is not yet known.
The updated code will come into force after being signed by Alexander Lukashenka.
