To Lam, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, has been elected president of the country at the National Assembly, reports the Vietnamese state news agency Vietnam News Agency.

The inauguration ceremony for the head of state took place immediately after the announcement of the voting results by the deputies of the National Assembly for the election of the country's president, following which To Lam received 100% support.
To Lam became the 15th president in the history of modern Vietnam. He succeeded Luong Cuong as head of state. The president in Vietnam is elected for five years.
