According to police information, Manninger was driving a car and collided with a local train at an unregulated railway crossing in the town of Nussdorf am Haunsberg. Alexander Manninger was one of the most famous Austrian goalkeepers of his generation. He began his professional career with Salzburg's "Austria" in the mid-1990s.
