U.S. President Donald Trump did not confirm reports from the Russian Foreign Ministry that his administration had invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to Miami for the G20 summit, which is scheduled to take place in December.
"There are reports that you are going to invite Vladimir Putin to the G20 summit in Miami. Is that so?" a journalist asked Trump at the White House on April 24.
The U.S. President replied: "No, but if he came, it would probably be very beneficial."
Trump added that he "doesn't know if Putin will come" and "doubts he will come," stating that he holds the view that "you have to talk to everyone," and again criticized former U.S. President Barack Obama for the decision to exclude Russia from the G8.
The day before, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Moscow had received an invitation to the G20 summit in Miami at the highest level.
